The plan in action

Once I figured out what kind of financial shape I was actually in, I needed to figure out how to actually tackle it. I did the only smart thing I could think of and I asked my Facebook friends! I know it is silly, but I figured there are a lot of people smarter then I am and maybe one of them would offer me up a suggestion worth following up. I had two different people suggest that I read Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover. So I did. I bought the book about 1 month ago, and I read the entire thing in 1 day. I seriously felt a weight being lifted from my shoulders as I made my way through the book and through Dave’s baby step plan. I absolutely love it. His plan is so simple. Not easy, but simple! I am totally confident that I can may off all of this debt by my target goal date.

  1. Good luck! I was just reading through the comments on DR's website and found your blog link. I'm looking for inspiration. :) I am turning 26 on the 18th and would love to be debt-free by the time I'm 30! Or 27! :) Keep it up, and I look forward to reading more about knocking out your debt!

  2. You've taken the first steps by committing to a plan and by honestly assessing how much debt you need to tackle.

Have you written a budget yet? That's the most important step. Dave says to do it by month but I do our family budget by paycheck. It's just easier for me that way because I can see exactly what bills each paycheck is going to be spent on.

Don't start off thinking that your budget has to be perfect right out the gate. It takes a couple of months to get it tweaked in ways that will work for you. But it IS essential to have something in place ASAP.

Using Dave's plan, my husband and I have paid off $56,000 in debt in less than three years and will be totally debt free, including the mortgage, by next spring.

It really CAN be done, you see.

  3. Congrats on taking that first step! My husband and I are on Dave's plan as well and are so excited to be working toward being debt free. The budget is key! I'm so amazed at how much money we were wasting before. Even living on a tight budget, our lives are so much better now because we have peace of mind!
